When I was growing up, my father would spend his evenings working in his basement. He would use all the tools in the shop such as the lathe, hand sawsand, hand tools and literally build things with his hands. He passed this knowledge onto me by letting me use all the tools in his shop and learning what they could do.
I inherited this knowledge and I started by building radios in high school and later working with my hands in the garden. Perhaps the best part was knowing what a tool could do and how to use it. To this day, nothing gives me greater pleasure that changing a tire or using the tractor to mow the lawn.
As I get older and have more time in my hands and I try to spend time around the house and garden fixing things that need fixing.
Being able to change light switches and sink stoppers has give me an appreciation for what my father’s gift was. Making me into a DIFM person.
This ability to pass on his skills is what made my father a great person and what got us closer in my teen years.
Which are you a DIY or DIFM person??
