Which sense is more important to you: vision or hearing?
Let me tell you why I would choose sight. Sights and sounds are very primal and allow us to know our surroundings. I personally need both senses to appreciate the world around me.
Vision is an essential sense of knowing what is going on around us. We need eyes to drive, watch movies, look at loved ones, write, and read. Without vision, you cannot do any of those activities. You also could not walk freely without vision. You can compensate for lack of vision by letting other senses take over. and make you aware of your surroundings, sounds, smells, etc. The hardest thing would be not looking at your loved ones. Not able to enjoy a sunrise or sunset. A night walk, a morning walk. A night sky full of stars. The full moon each month.
The ability to hear enables you to navigate your world. Not being able to listen to the birds singing and the night sounds of a summer’s eve would be the things I would miss the most. Not able to hear music, someone speaking, or watch movies with sound. Yet you adjust to your world and let other senses compensate for the loss. The hardest thing would be to change to not hearing your loved ones speak.
Compensate for the hearing loss with my other senses. For me, sight is more important as I could not adjust as much to being blind. I can adapt to hearing loss by doing without sounds. Watch movies with subtitles and read more than listen to music. I would miss the songs and voices of my loved ones, but I would learn to compensate for it with my other senses.
Ultimately, both senses are crucial in our ability to understand the world around us, but given a choice. I would choose sight over the ability to hear.
